Privacy Policy for MyMotif
MyMotif is operated by Tally1, LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("Tally1", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the MyMotif mobile application and related services (together, "MyMotif" or the "Service"), how we use that information, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to individuals in the United States and Canada, where MyMotif is available at launch, and includes disclosures for residents of other jurisdictions.
In plain English: This is the formal description of what happens to the information you give us when you use MyMotif. For a warmer, shorter companion to this Policy in our own voice, see our Data Usage Policy. For the rules that govern your use of MyMotif, see our Terms of Service.
1. Who we are and how to reach us
In plain English: MyMotif is made by a small Wyoming company called Tally1, LLC. If you have questions about privacy, email us at privacy@mymotif.io.

2. What this Policy covers
In plain English: This Policy covers the MyMotif app and the related website at mymotif.io. It does not cover other companies' services, even ones you reach through links or sign-in buttons inside MyMotif.
This Policy covers the MyMotif mobile application on iOS and Android, the website at mymotif.io, and the optional companion experience at motif-match.com. It does not cover the practices of third parties whose services you may use in connection with MyMotif (for example, Apple's Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In); those third parties have their own privacy policies.
3. What information we collect
In plain English: We collect what we need to sign you in, show you the daily experience, keep the app working, and match a quote to your four image choices. We do not collect your date of birth, your precise location, your contacts, your photos, your health data, or advertising identifiers.
3.1 Account data
When you create an account, we collect and store:
- A Firebase Authentication unique identifier ("UID")
- Your email address, received from the identity provider you chose or entered directly if you sign in with an email code. If you sign in with Apple and select "Hide My Email," this will be an Apple relay address (
@privaterelay.appleid.com) and we will not receive your actual email. - Your display name, if the identity provider shares one
- The authentication provider you used (Apple, Google, Email, or Anonymous/Guest)
- The date and time your account was created
- The date and time of your most recent sign-in
- The IP address associated with each sign-in
- The user agent (device and browser) string associated with each sign-in
3.2 Usage data
When you use MyMotif, we collect and store:
- The number of daily sessions you have completed
- An internal flag indicating whether an account belongs to Tally1 staff (used only for our own administrative accounts)
- One record for each day you use the app, capturing which four images you selected, the quote you were shown, any private note you sent us through the in-app menu, and the date and time you completed that day's session
- An approximate location derived from your IP address, limited to country and region/city. We do not collect precise GPS location.
3.3 Service operation data (collected automatically)
Our infrastructure providers collect standard technical data that helps us run the app:
- Device type, operating system version, and MyMotif app version (via Firebase Crashlytics)
- Crash logs and diagnostic telemetry (via Firebase Crashlytics)
- Standard server access logs (retained by Firebase under Google's standard retention terms)
- Analytics events (via Firebase Analytics), limited to: session start, grid selection, collage reveal, and comment submission
3.4 Inferred data
We derive patterns from your image selections that help us match a quote to you. These derived signals are stored only on our servers; they are never transmitted to your device and are never shown to you inside the app.
3.5 What we do not collect
We do not collect: date of birth; year of birth; precise GPS location; your device contacts; your camera roll or photo library; your microphone or camera inputs; biometric data; health data; financial or payment data (MyMotif does not offer in-app purchases at launch); your phone number; your browsing history outside MyMotif; or advertising identifiers (IDFA/IDFV/AAID).
4. How we use your information
In plain English: We use the minimum information needed to sign you in, show you the daily experience, keep the app running, and choose a quote we think will resonate with you. We analyze patterns in your image selections to match you with quotes. We do not use your information for advertising.
We use your information to:
- Authenticate you and keep your session secure
- Deliver the daily MyMotif experience (the sixteen images, the four selection grids, the collage, and the quote)
- Analyze patterns in your image selections to match you with quotes we believe will resonate. Over time, these patterns help us serve you quotes that feel more personal.
- Operate, maintain, debug, and secure MyMotif
- Respond to your requests, including privacy requests and support questions
- Communicate with you about material changes to the Service or these Policies
- Comply with law and protect the rights, safety, and property of MyMotif, our users, and the public
Our use of your selections is limited to personalizing content within MyMotif and does not produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
5. Guest mode
In plain English: You can use MyMotif as a guest for up to 30 days. After that, we'll ask you to sign in with Apple, Google, or email to continue saving your motif history. If you never sign up, your guest data disappears forever if you uninstall the app. If you sign up during or after guest use, we attach your guest sessions to your new account.
MyMotif offers a guest mode that allows you to use the app as a guest for up to 30 days without creating an account. After 30 days of using MyMotif as a guest, we'll ask you to sign in with Apple, Google, or email to continue saving your motif history. During guest mode, we assign your device a temporary Firebase Anonymous Authentication identifier and collect the same usage data described in Section 3, minus the email and display name.
- If you sign up for an account during or after guest mode, we link your guest sessions and daily records to your new account.
- If you never sign up and uninstall the app, your guest data is permanently lost and cannot be recovered, because it was never tied to an identity we can authenticate.
6. How we share your information
In plain English: We use a small set of trusted service providers, Google (Firebase) and Apple, to run the app. We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. Separately, we use AI tools (such as Anthropic's) to help us build MyMotif's content before it ever reaches you, never on your personal information. If any of this ever changes, we will tell you in advance and ask your permission again.
6.1 Service providers
We use the following service providers, each of which processes your information only on our instructions and under a written contract:
- Google LLC provides Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Firebase Hosting, Firebase Analytics, and Firebase Crashlytics. Infrastructure is operated from Google's
nam5multi-region (United States). - Apple Inc. provides Sign in with Apple as an identity provider, including the optional email relay service ("Hide My Email").
- Google LLC (identity services) provides Google Sign-In as an identity provider. Listed separately from Firebase for clarity; Google is the same corporate entity.
We also use AI tools (such as Anthropic's) to help prepare MyMotif's content before it reaches users. These tools do not receive or process your personal information; see Section 6.3.
6.2 No sale or sharing for cross-context advertising
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act and comparable state laws. If this changes in the future, we will notify you in advance, update this Policy, and where required by law request your fresh consent before any new sharing begins. You will retain full access to MyMotif regardless of whether you consent.
6.3 AI and machine learning
We do not use your personal information to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's. We do use AI tools operated by providers such as Anthropic PBC during content preparation, for example, to help build MyMotif's image library and to prepare the quotes shown in the app. This work happens before any user interacts with the app, and it operates on MyMotif's own content, not on your personal information. Your image selections and other personal information are not sent to these AI tools; the quote you see each day is delivered through a pre-computed lookup during your session, not through live AI inference. These providers are contractually prohibited from using any MyMotif data to train their own models.
6.4 Legal and safety
We may disclose your information when we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is required by law or legal process (such as a subpoena or court order), or when disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of MyMotif, our users, or the public.
6.5 Business transactions
If Tally1 is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such transfer and any resulting change in this Policy.
6.6 motif-match.com
motif-match.com is an elective companion experience. If you choose to share your daily result to motif-match.com, we send only the day number and a coded signature of your selections. We do not send your notes or any other personal data.
7. Cookies and tracking technologies
In plain English: MyMotif does not use advertising cookies, does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not trigger Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt because it has nothing to ask you about.
MyMotif is a mobile application and does not rely on browser cookies in the traditional sense. We use session tokens and crash-analytics identifiers provided by Firebase, which function as the mobile equivalent of essential session cookies. MyMotif does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not request permission to do so under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework.
8. Location information
In plain English: We can tell roughly what country and region you are signing in from, based on your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location and we do not track your movements.
We use the IP address associated with each sign-in to derive an approximate location, limited to country and region/city. We use this information for fraud prevention, diagnostics, and to understand aggregate geographic usage. We do not collect or store precise GPS location.
9. How long we keep your information
In plain English: If you use MyMotif, we keep your account and your daily records for as long as your account is active. If you stop using MyMotif for four years, we send you a reminder and delete your data thirty days later unless you come back.
- Active accounts: We retain your account data and daily records for as long as your account is active.
- Inactive accounts: After 48 months of inactivity (no sign-in), we send an inactivity notice to the email associated with your account. 30 days after that notice, your account and associated data are deleted unless you reactivate your account by signing in.
- Guest data: If you use guest mode and never sign up, your guest data is permanently lost when you uninstall the app and cannot be recovered.
- Deleted accounts: If you delete your account through the in-app Delete Account flow, your account and associated data are erased immediately at the moment you confirm. If you request deletion by email, we process the request within 30 days. Either path is subject to applicable law that may require continued retention (for example, for tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or legal-hold purposes); in those cases, we isolate the retained information and delete it when the legal obligation ends.
- Backups: Information persisted in routine backups may take up to an additional 90 days to be fully removed.
- Admin review records: Sessions completed by internal Tally1 staff accounts (identified by an internal staff flag) are excluded from personalization and from any future data products.
10. Your rights and choices
In plain English: Depending on where you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or object to certain uses. You can always reach us at privacy@mymotif.io and we will help you.
10.1 US State Privacy Rights
This section applies to residents of California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Maryland. Depending on the law of your state, you may have some or all of the following rights:
- The right to know or access the personal information we have collected about you
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information
- The right to delete personal information we have collected from you
- The right to data portability
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (we do not currently sell or share, so this right is preserved for you should that ever change)
- The right to opt out of targeted advertising (we do not engage in targeted advertising)
- The right to opt out of profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects (our use of your selections is limited to personalization within MyMotif and does not produce such effects)
- The right to limit use of sensitive personal information
- The right to appeal a denied request (where applicable)
- The right not to receive discriminatory or retaliatory treatment for exercising these rights
To submit a verifiable request, email privacy@mymotif.io from the email associated with your account, or describe in your message enough information to let us verify the account the request relates to. We will acknowledge California requests within 10 business days and respond substantively within 45 days (extendable by another 45 days where permitted by law).
10.2 Residents of Canada
We process your personal information in the United States through Firebase's nam5 region. Under Canadian federal and provincial privacy law, including PIPEDA, you have the right to access and correct the personal information we hold about you and to withdraw consent to our processing, subject to contractual and legal obligations. To exercise these rights, email privacy@mymotif.io.
10.3 Residents of Other Jurisdictions
If you are located outside the United States and Canada, you may have additional rights under your local law, which may include the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or port your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@mymotif.io and we will respond within 30 days.
10.4 "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" (California)
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If this changes, we will implement the opt-out mechanism required by California law and provide a link in this Policy and inside the app.
11. How to exercise your rights
In plain English: Email privacy@mymotif.io with your request and the email address associated with your account. We will confirm quickly and respond within the time law requires.
To submit a privacy request, please email privacy@mymotif.io with:
- Your name
- The email address associated with your MyMotif account
- A clear description of your request (for example, "I would like a copy of my data" or "please delete my account")
- Any additional details that help us verify your identity
We will acknowledge your request and respond within the time required by applicable law (10 business days for acknowledgment and 45 days for substantive response under California law; 30 days under GDPR-equivalent frameworks).
You may also designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may require written proof of the agent's authority and verification of your identity.
When we provide a copy of your personal information, we provide the data we actually collect and store about you. We do not disclose trade secrets, our proprietary methodology, or any inferences we derive from your selections.
12. Account deletion
In plain English: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, directly inside the app. Open the menu, tap Delete Account, confirm, and your account is gone immediately. If you cannot access the in-app flow for any reason, email us at privacy@mymotif.io and we will process your request within 30 days.
You may delete your MyMotif account at any time.
- In-app deletion: MyMotif offers an in-app "Delete Account" option in the App Menu. When you confirm, your account, your daily selections, your notes, and your sign-in identity are all erased immediately, subject only to the exceptional retention described in Section 9.
- Email deletion: If you cannot access the in-app deletion flow for any reason, you can email privacy@mymotif.io with the subject line "Delete my account" and we will process your request within 30 days.
13. Children
In plain English: MyMotif is for adults 18 and older only. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account.
MyMotif is available only to individuals who are 18 years of age or older. By accepting our Terms of Service, users affirm that they are 18 or older. We do not collect date of birth or year of birth. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will delete the account and associated data promptly.
14. Security
In plain English: We protect your information using industry-standard technical and organizational measures. No system is perfectly secure, so we also work hard to limit what we collect in the first place.
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit and at rest through our Firebase infrastructure, access controls on administrative accounts, and a lean data footprint designed to minimize the consequences of any security event. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
In plain English: If we change this Policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app and, where the law requires, we will ask your permission again.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, for example, if we begin sharing or selling data, if we add a new category of data collection, or if the processing of your information changes materially, we will provide prominent notice inside MyMotif and, where required by law, obtain your fresh consent before the change takes effect. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this Policy each time we make changes.

Appendix A: Sign in with Apple: "Hide My Email"
If you sign in with Apple and choose "Hide My Email," Apple creates a unique, random email address that forwards to your real address. MyMotif will only ever see the forwarding address (for example, abc123@privaterelay.appleid.com), never your real email. Any emails MyMotif sends to you will be delivered to your real inbox through Apple's relay service. You can stop receiving these emails at any time by disabling the relay in your Apple ID settings or by deleting your MyMotif account.
